Variable geometry

In 1961, an international treaty drafted by the Hague Conference on Private International Law abolished the requirement of legalisation for foreign public documents. The treaty provides that documents issued in any of the signatory countries can be certified for legal purposes in all the other signatory states through a standardized stamp affixed by competent authorities.
